Description Technical Specs

Kalamazoo KG-11 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1938, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top. Firestripe pickguard.

Good sounding and playing pre-war Gibson-made guitar at a budget price. These Kalamazoos have a bright but well balanced sound with a bluesey edge. The KG-11 was the best of the Kalamazoo flat top. The body size is similar to the Gibson L-0 but the top is ladder braced.  No truss rod. These less expensive guitars were a major factor in Gibson's survival during the great depression but were phased out shortly after the US entered WWII. Has replaced, oversize bridge. Approx 4 top cracks which have been repaired and are tight. V-shape neck and medium action.

This may in fact be a KHG-11 (H for Hawiian) originally set up for lap-style slide play. 12 frets to the body (rather than 14), larger neck.
